Installing CDS Updates on HyperScale Nodes

You can upgrade the Commvault Distributed Storage (CDS) packages from an older version to the latest version on HyperScale X Appliance nodes.

Before You Begin

Verify that the remote cache is setup on one of the nodes in the existing storage pool. (By default the remote cache will be configured in one of the nodes, when a storage pool is configured. It is important to verify and confirm the availability of the remote cache in one of the nodes in the existing storage pool.)

Procedure

  1. Download the latest updates and populate the remote cache as follows:

    1. From the CommCell Console ribbon, on the Tools tab, click Add/Remove Software > Download Software.

      The Download and Sync Cache Options dialog box will be displayed.

    2. In Download installation media, select Latest Fixes for Current Release (the default value).

    3. In the Options tab, select the Download and Sync option to ensure that the remote cache configured in the HyperScale node is automatically selected for remote cache synchronization.

    4. Click Advanced.

      The Advanced Options for Download and Sync Cache dialog box will be displayed.

    5. In the Operating Systems tab, select both the Windows and the Unix check boxes. (Linux X86_64 will be automatically selected when you select Unix.)

    6. Click OK twice to close the dialog boxes.

    Monitor the progress of the download job in the Job Controller to ensure that the software is successfully downloaded and synchronized.

  2. Install the latest Commvault software updates on the CommServe and HyperScale nodes before you proceed to the next step. For more information, see Installing Commvault Software Updates.

    Monitor the progress of the update install job in the Job Controller to ensure that the software is successfully upgraded.

  3. Upgrade the CDS RPMs as follows:

    1. From the CommCell Console ribbon, on the Tools tab, click Add/Remove Software > Upgrade Software.

    2. In the Update Software Options dialog box, expand Client Computers, and then select the remote cache node.

    3. Select the Install Storage updates on HyperScaleX nodes option.

    4. Click OK.

    Monitor the progress of the job in the Job Controller to ensure that the job completes successfully.

    You can also monitor the progress of the CDS upgrade from the /var/log/commvault/Log_Files/installdbg.log log file.
