Installing a Client Using a Cascading Network Gateway Connection

If you plan to configure an environment in which the client connects to the CommServe computer through a cascading network gateway, you can configure the client with the necessary network settings during the installation of the Commvault software.

Before You Begin

If you plan to perform remote installations using the CommCell Console, you must open some network ports. For more information, see Review Firewall and Network Port Requirements.

Procedure

Follow the procedure that corresponds to one of the following installation methods:

  • Remote Installation Using the CommCell Console (see Procedure 1, below)

  • Local Installation Using the Installation Package on Windows Client (see Procedure 2, below)

  • Local Installation Using the Installation Package on UNIX Client (see Procedure 3, below)

These configuration procedures are described below.

Procedure 1: Remote Installation Using the CommCell Console

On the Firewall Configuration page of the installation wizard, complete the following steps:

  1. Select the There is Firewall between Client machine and CommServe check box and click CommServe is reachable only through proxy.

  2. From the Proxy client name list, select the client name of the Commvault Network Gateway that resides near the Client group.

  3. Click Next to continue with the client installation.

Procedure 2: Local Installation Using the Installation Package on Windows Client

  1. On the Server Information page of the installation wizard, enter the network gateway information that resides near client, using one of the following formats:

    • Gateway_Hostname (use this format if the tunnel port of the network gateway is 8403)

    • Gateway_Hostname:Port_Number (use this format if the tunnel port of the network gateway is anything other than 8403)

      Note

      • If you want to use multiple network gateways, you can enter multiple hostname ports separated by a semi-colon (;). For example: Gateway_Hostname1:Port_Number1;Gateway_Hostname2:Port_Number2

      • If you want to enter the port as an IPv6 address, use the following format: [2001:db8::216:cbff:xx:xx]:8080

  2. If the client is separated from the CommServe computer by an HTTP proxy, complete the following steps on the Firewall HTTP Proxy Information page. Otherwise, skip this step.

    1. Select the Configure for HTTP proxy check box.

    2. Select one of the following options based on your network requirements:

      • If you want to manually provide the HTTP proxy details, click Explicit proxy settings.

      • If you want to use the HTTP proxy settings that are used by the current user profile, click Use HTTP proxy settings from user profile.

      • If you want to auto-detect the HTTP proxy details by checking the proxy auto-config (PAC) file using DNS or DHCP WPAD, click Autodetect proxy settings via WPAD.

    3. If you chose to manually provide the HTTP proxy details, provide the following information:

      • In the HTTP Proxy hostname or IP address box, specify the host name or IP address of the HTTP proxy.

      • In the HTTP Proxy port number box, specify the port number of the HTTP proxy.

    4. Proceed to the next page.

  3. Continue with the client installation.

Procedure 3: Local Installation Using the Installation Package on UNIX Client

  1. On the Server Information page of the installation wizard, enter the network gateway information that resides near client, using the following formats:

  2. On the Deciding If to Configure HTTP Proxy page, if the client is separated from the CommServe computer by an HTTP proxy, select Yes, and then click Next. Otherwise, select No and continue with the client installation.

After you accept to configure HTTP proxy, on the Setting HTTP Proxy Configuration page, complete the following steps:

    1. In the HTTP Proxy hostname or IP address option, specify the host name or IP address of the HTTP proxy.

    2. In the HTTP Proxy port number option, specify the port number of the HTTP proxy.

    3. Click Next.

  3. Continue with the client installation.
