If you want to analyze large amounts of log data from multiple clients in your environment, you can set up monitoring policies to collect and filter the log data. Monitoring policies help you capture log events to efficiently analyze and monitor the state of your environment.
Note
Laptop clients are excluded from Log Monitoring. That is, log data from laptop clients will not be captured.
During the monitoring process, log events are filtered based on the log criteria specified in the monitoring policy. When the criteria matches one or more log events, the monitoring policy collects the information and stores it in the Index Server. If the log criteria are not specified, the monitoring policy collects the complete logs for monitoring. You can monitor the collected log data using the Log Monitoring application in the Web Console.
A user can view the logs of a client for which the user has:

View or Master role assigned for the client. For more information, see Administering the Security Associations of a User.

Execute Monitoring Policy permission for the monitoring policy associated with the client. For more information, see Monitoring Policy Permissions.
Supported Data Sources
You can monitor a variety of system-generated logs:

Text log files, such as Commvault logs and csv logs

CommServe database logs, which include Audit Trail, CommCell alerts and Event Viewer logs

Windows events, such as System Event and Application Event logs

UNIX system logs

You can use the Log Monitoring Application on the Web Console for various Monitoring activities like search for log data, create alerts and reports based on your searches, share the searches, and upload new log files for immediate log data analysis.
