Recovering the Virtual Server for Microsoft Hyper-V

Recover the virtual machine data to the standby server in the event of a disaster.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have a Stand-by server at a disaster recovery (DR) Site. See Preparing for a Full System Recovery.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Console, navigate to Client Computers | <Microsoft Hyper-V Client> | Virtual Server | Hyper-V | defaultBackupSet.

  2. Right-click the backup set that contains the data you want to restore and click Browse and Restore.

  3. Click View Content.

  4. Select the virtual machine under the backup set. Its entire contents will be automatically selected in the right pane.

  5. Click Recover All Selected.

    Note

Ensure that you select the data to be restored on the right pane, and not just the root node on the left pane which contains the data/Virtual Machine.

  6. Click New Folder to restore the virtual machine to a new location.

  7. Click in the Destination Path column and then click ....

  8. Browse and select the destination folder.

  9. Click OK.

You can monitor the progress of the restore job in the Job Controller window of the CommCell Console.

  10. Once the restore job has completed, right-click the entity (e.g. agent, instance) and click View | Restore History and click OK.

If the entity chosen is the client computer, click View | Job History and click OK.

You can view the following details about the job by right-clicking the job:

    • View Restore Items

You can view them as Successful, Failed, Skipped or All.

    • View Job Details

    • View Events of the restore job.

    • View Log files of the restore job.

Result

Once the virtual machine is restored, it is automatically mounted to the Hyper-V Server of the specified client computer.
