Reports for Data Sources

With Data Cube, you can connect to and crawl multiple data sources to gather information in one place. The system creates a default report for your data that contains the structure of the original data sources. You can create a custom report to work with a subset of your data, to restructure the original data, and to change the name of keys and columns.

You can also integrate Data Cube data sources with business intelligence tools and visualization software or export your reports to your own applications.

Built-in Reports

After you create a data source in Data Cube, you can view the following built-in reports for the data source:

  • Search Report: Each data source has a default report that contains the structure of the original data sources.

  • Sensitive Files Report: For file system data sources, displays a risk assessment of your data based on the types of sensitive information (such as identification numbers and credit card numbers) that exist in your files. To use the Sensitive Files Report, you must create a file system data source with entity extraction enabled and have the Build Your Own Reports feature deployed in your environment. The Sensitive Files Report and more information about using the report is available in the Commvault Store.

For more information about Commvault Store, see Commvault Store.

  • Personally Identifiable Information (PII) Dashboard: For file system data sources, displays information about potentially sensitive data that exists in your file system data source. You must enable entity extraction to view the information in the PII Dashboard.

  • Size Distribution Dashboard: For file system data sources, displays metadata information about all of the files in your file system data source. You can use the Size Distribution Dashboard to obtain a high-level view of different aspects of your data.

  • Treesize Dashboard: For file system data sources, displays information about your data in a hierarchical structure. You can drill down into folders and sub-folders collected in the file system data source to obtain a granular view of your data

Custom Reports

To create a report for your data source, you can create a new report, import a report from Commvault Store or an XML file, or clone an existing report. Reports can contain graphs, charts, and other visualizations of your data. You can also import multiple data sources to discover relationships between the data in those sources.

For more information, see Adding Reports for a Data Source.

Integrate Data Cube with Business Intelligence Tools

You can integrate Data Cube with business intelligence (BI) tools and visualization tools, such as Microsoft Power BI and Tableau, to integrate Data Cube features into your workflow.

When enabled, Data Cube starts a service on the Index Store client associated to the Index Server. The service functions as an interface between Data Cube and third-party visualization software. After some basic configurations, Power BI and Tableau can import Data Cube data sources as a data source.

For more information, see Integrate Data Cube Sources with Business Intelligence Tools.
