Restore Data Using a Map File

Map files provide granular control of restore destinations for individual files utilizing a user-created mapping file that contains the list of files to be restored with their corresponding restore paths. For more information on creating a map file, see Specifications for the Map File.

Before You Begin

  • Review the general and agent-specific restore requirements accessed from Restore Backup Data prior to performing any restore operation.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > File System > backup set.

  2. Right-click the appropriate subclient and then click Browse and Restore.

  3. In the Browse and Restore Options dialog box, click View Content.

  4. In the left pane of the Client Browse window, expand File System > backup set > subclient.

  5. In the right pane, select the files or folders that you want to restore, and then click Recover All Selected.

  6. In the Restore Options dialog box, choose how you want to restore the data.

    For more information about general restore options, see Restore/Recover Options (General).

  7. In the Restore Options dialog box, click Advanced.

  8. In the Advanced Restore Options dialog box, set the options for the map file:

    1. On the Map tab, click the Use map file check box, and then type the map file path or click Browse to select the map file.

    2. Click the Restore unmapped files check box if you want to restore the unmapped files that are selected for restore, to the specified restore destination.

      Clear this option to restore only those files that are included in the specified map file.

    3. Click OK.

Click OK to close the Restore Options dialog box.

Restore NAS Data Using a Map File

Before You Begin

  • Review the general and agent-specific restore requirements accessed from Restore Backup Data prior to performing any restore operation.

  • Filters are not supported when restoring NAS data using a map file.

To restore data using a Map file:

  1. In the CommCell Browser, right-click the <backup set> or <subclient> that contains the data you want to restore, and then click All Tasks > Browse and Restore.

  2. In the Browse and Restore Options dialog box, select the options as follows:

    To...

    Then...

    Browse the latest backup

    • Click Latest Backup.

    Browse backup data from a specific time range

    1. Click Time Range.

    2. Select the options for the time range you want to browse.

  3. For advanced browse settings, click the Advanced Options tab and select from the available options.

    For instructions on agent-specific browse options, refer to Restore Backup Data.

  4. Click View Content.

  5. In the browse client tab, select the <backup set> or <subclient> check box and click Recover All Selected.

  6. In the Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog box, click the Advanced button.

  7. In the Advanced Restore Options dialog box, click the Map tab.

  8. Select the Use Map File check box, and then type or click Browse to enter the path to the map file you want to use.

  9. Select any additional options that you want from the tabs in the Advanced Restore Options dialog box, and then click OK.

  10. Select any additional options that you want from the tabs in the Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog box, and then click OK.
