Restoring a Content Database with Web Application

You can restore both the content database and the web application together, either to the same source client or to a new destination client.

To the Same Configuration

To restore a content database with web application to the same client, complete the following steps:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > SharePoint Server > Databases.

  2. Right click the subclient, and then click Browse and Restore.

    The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

  3. Click View Content.

  4. Expand the WSS Web Application node, select a content database, and then click Recover all Selected.

    The Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog box appears.

  5. On the General tab, select the following options to perform the restore job:

    1. In the Restore Options pane, select Restore all.

    2. In the Type of Restore pane, select Same Configuration.

  6. Optional: To change user account of the Web Application Pool account, on the Web Application tab, double-click the Login Name and the Password.

  7. Click OK.

To a New Configuration

Before You Begin

Verify that the build version of the destination Farm matches the build version of the source Farm.

Procedure

To restore a content database with web application to a different client, complete the following steps:

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > SharePoint Server > Databases.

  2. Right click the subclient, and then click Browse and Restore.

    The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

  3. Click View Content.

  4. Expand the WSS Web Application node, select a content database, and then click Recover all Selected.

    The Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog box appears.

  5. On the General tab, select the following options to perform the restore job:

    1. In the Restore Options pane, select Restore all.

    2. In the Type of Restore pane, select New Configuration.

    3. In the SQL Server Client box, select the new SQL Sever that will host the web application and the content database.

  6. On the Database tab, complete the following tasks needed to restore the data:

    1. From the Database Server list, select a SQL server on which the Farm resides.

    2. Click Browse and select the destination server where the database will be restored.

  7. To change the URL of the web application, on the Web Application tab, type the new Farm URL.

  8. Click OK.

Note

You can restore only one content database per restore job. Restore of multiple content databases is not supported in a single job.
