Restoring an Exchange Database In Place

Applies to: Exchange 2007 or later, and IntelliSnap

By default, the database that you select to restore is restored to the same client from which it is backed up (in-place restore).

Before You Begin

  • Make sure that the database that you want to restore is dismounted and marked for overwrite.

  • Suspend the Storage Group or Database copy so that replication does not occur during the restore.

  • Make sure that the Storage Group or the Database name uses ASCII characters only and does not contain the plus (+) character.

  • Exchange databases can only be restored to the same version of Exchange from which the database was backed up. For example, you cannot restore an Exchange 2013 database to an Exchange 2010 server.

  • Exchange requires a manual cleanup of the Exchange DB and transaction log files at the database location before a restore operation. Restored transaction log files are replayed during a restore.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client.

  2. Right-click Exchange Database, and then click All Tasks > Browse and Restore.

The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

  3. Click View Content.

  4. In the left pane of the Client Browse window, expand Exchange Database > Microsoft Information Store > Storage Group/Database.

  5. In the left pane, select the databases that you want to restore, and then click Recover Databases.

The Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog box appears.

  6. By default, the selected destination client is same as the source client from where the database was backed up. Depending on the type of selected destination client, perform one of the following steps:

    • If the destination client is DAG, then select a member server from the list. Click OK.

    • If the destination client is a standalone server, then the destination client cannot be changed. Click OK.

  7. Manually mount the stores after the restore.
