SnapMirror to Tape restores from an image backup. In order to perform this type of restore, you must have configured and backed up an image backup set as described in Configuring Image Backups. You can only perform SnapMirror to Tape restores on full image backups. To restore data from an incremental or differential image backup, you must select the latest full image backup job that was performed prior to the incremental or differential backup job that you want to restore. Full restores overwrite all existing content, including all snapshots, on the destination volume.
Procedure
-
Ensure that the volume you are restoring to is in a restricted mode (unavailable for user level data access).
-
From the CommCell Console, go to client > NDMP.
-
Right-click the backup set, and then click All Tasks > Browse and Restore.
-
Click View Content.
-
Select the volume to be restored, and then click Recover All Selected.
Note
You can restore data that was backed up from volumes on either 32-bit or 64-bit aggregates with ONTAP 8.0 to volumes on 64-bit aggregates with ONTAP 8.1 and later. You can restore backup images to volumes with an ONTAP version up to two major consecutive releases from the backup image. For more detailed information, see NetApp documentation.
-
Clear Restore to same folder, and then enter the destination path.
Note
The destination volume for a restore must be the root of a volume, for example /vol/vol1, in restricted mode. However, the browse operation for a restore destination does not display volumes in a restricted state. You must enter the path manually in the destination path box. For instructions on setting a volume to restricted mode, see NetApp documentation.
-
Click OK to start the restore.
