Restoring Site Collections

Always browse and restore a site collection one level higher in the destination. Else, the restore operation might fail.

For example, restore a site collection to a web application where it needs to be restored to.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > SharePoint Server.

  2. Right-click Databases, point to All Task, and then click Offline Browse.

    The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

  3. Complete the following steps to browse the content database:

    1. Browse and select the SQL Instance that has the content database attached to it.

    2. Browse and select the Content Database that has to be mined.

    3. Click View Content.

  4. Select the site collection that you want to restore, and then click Recover All Selected.

    The Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog box appears.

  5. Complete the following steps to restore the documents:

    1. Browse to Specify destination path on the SharePoint Server.

    2. In the Type of Restore pane, select Site Collection.

    3. Select Unconditional Overwrite.

    4. Optional: To restore site collection to a particular database, select the Store Site Collections in Specified Databases check box. Then, enter the database server and the database name.

    5. Optional: To specify user credentials of the administrator who has access to the site collection, select the Add new user to site check box. Then, enter the site owner login and email details.

    6. Click OK.
