Restoring Sub Sites and Documents

Always browse and restore a document, a sub site, a library, or a list one level higher in the destination. Else, the restore operation might fail.

For example,

• Restore a document or a list item to a document library or a list where they need to be restored to.

• Restore a complete document library, a list or a sub site to the root (/) of their current site collection.

Procedure

1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > SharePoint Server.

2. Right-click Databases, point to All Task, and then click Offline Browse.

   The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

3. Complete the following steps to browse the content database:

   1. Browse and select the SQL Instance that has the content database attached to it.

      If you are browsing from a remote server, type a name for the SQL Instance.

   2. Browse and select the Content Database that has to be mined.

      If you are browsing from a remote server, type a name for Content Database.

   3. Select the Attach Content Database to Web Application check box, and enter a Web Application URL.

      Enter a web application URL which does not have a site collection added.

      Note

      For SharePoint 2010 and 2013, attach the content database to web application only for host named site collections.

   4. Click View Content.

4. Select the sub sites, libraries, or documents, that you want to restore, and then click Recover All Selected.

   The Restore Options for All Selected Items dialog box appears.

   Notes

   • When trying to restore document versions, you can restore either the latest version or all the available versions.

   • Browse shows list item size as 0.

5. Complete the following steps to restore the documents:

   1. Browse to Specify destination path on the SharePoint Server.

   2. In the Type of Restore pane, select Document.

   3. Select Unconditional Overwrite.

   4. Click OK.
