Hadoop supports the following types of subclient:
-
Default subclients
-
User-defined subclients
When you create an instance, a default subclient is automatically created. The default subclient protects all data in the instance. You can create user-defined subclients to protect different groups of data.
You can change the data access nodes that are associated with the default subclient and with the user-defined subclients. All the subclients within an instance have the same master node, but you can change the master node of an instance.
Different Subclients for Backup and Archive Operations
You can create separate user-defined subclients for archiving and backups, and you can assign them to two different storage policies with a different retention. Usually, a longer retention period is assigned to the storage policy for archived data.
When you run a backup job on the archive subclient, based on the archiving criteria, Hadoop data is migrated to a secondary storage and removed from the primary storage.
