Submitting a Watermark Request for Seismic Files

To create a chain of custody for your SEG-Y data files, add a watermark to each file. After watermarks are added to the files, the files are stored in a staging location.

To create the watermark, the following information is added to the file during processing:

  • The company name

  • The user who requested the watermark

  • The date and time the watermark was added

  • A binary hash

Before You Begin

  • Import the Seismic Files Dashboard app and add a data source. For information about the required setup, see Chain of Custody for Seismic Files.

  • Verify that your access node computer (the MediaAgent that processes the files) can connect to the .segy source file locations.

  • Verify that your staging location (the location where the watermarked files are stored) meets the following requirements:

    • Local to the access node computer

    • Large amount of disk space (an external drive, such as a USB drive, is acceptable)

  • If the .segy source files are located on a remote server, you need the user credentials for that server.

Procedure

  1. From the Web Console Reports dashboard, under Analytics, open the Seismic Files Dashboard report.

  2. In the Data Source list, click the data source that contains the .segy files that you want to watermark.

  3. Click Apply.

The .segy files appear under File Information.

  4. Click the check box next to each file that needs a watermark.

    Tip

Additional information about each file is available in the Header Information section located under File Information.

  5. In the upper left of the File Information section, click Watermark.

The Chain of Custody dialog box appears.

  6. In the Company Name box, enter the company name that will be included in the watermark.

    Important

The company name must not exceed 50 characters.

  7. Optional: To send emails to additional users, in the Also notify (Email address) box, enter comma-separated email addresses.

Emails are always sent to the user who submits the watermark request.

  8. Click OK.

The Access Information dialog box appears.

  9. In the Access Node box, click a MediaAgent to process the watermark request.

  10. In the Staging Location box, enter the path to the staging location.

The staging location must be local to the access node.

  11. If the .segy source files are located on a remote server, enter the user credentials for that server.

    Note

If the .segy source files are local to the access node, do not enter credentials.

  12. Click Submit.

Results

You receive an email that includes the status of the watermark request. If the request is not successful, you receive an email that explains the issue. If the request is successful, you and any additional users you added receive an email that includes links to the watermarked files.

For information about validating the watermarked files, see Validating Watermarked Files.
