A tape library is a physical library that is associated with one or more tape drives. Tape library can be associated with one MediaAgent or the library can be shared amongst multiple MediaAgents. A tape library consists of a master drive pool and a drive pool.
The Master drive pool is a physical representation of the drives within a library. For example a tape library can consist of an LTO4 and an LTO5 drive within the same library. The Drive Pool can be used to divide drives logically within a library. The drives can then be assigned to different jobs.
You can add a tape library from the CommCell Console or by using the Command Line Interface. For more information on adding tape libraries using command line, see Create a Tape or Stand-Alone Library Using Command Line.
Before You Begin
Ensure that the appropriate drivers for the devices are loaded and that the operating system is able to identify the devices. For more information, see Driver Configurations.
Creating a Tape Library

From the CommCell Browser, expand to Storage Resources.

Right-click Libraries, and then click Add | Tape Library.
The Add Tape Library dialog box appears.

Select the appropriate MediaAgent from the MediaAgent list.

Click Scan Hardware.
The tape library that is associated with the selected MediaAgent is detected. It appears in the Add Tape Library dialog box as Not configured.

Right-click the detected library, and then click Configure.
A message appears that tells you that the library was configured successfully.

Click OK.
The new tape library is now configured.

Click OK.
The new tape library appears in the CommCell Browser under Storage Resources | Libraries.
