User Accounts Required by the SQL Server Agent

Accounts configured at each of the following levels can be used for all the entities within that level. You can log on to any of the listed SQL user account levels that satisfy the account requirements.

You can also use a user account from which SQL Server services are running by providing logon credentials.

User Account Level

When to Use

CommCell

Use for all SQL Server Agents in your CommCell Console.

Configure the user account only if one person performs all the backup and restore operations in your organization.

Client Computer Group

Use for all the computers within a client computer group in your CommCell Console.

Configure the user account only if several users are responsible for performing backup and restore operations for each client computer group in your organization.

Note

User credentials provided at the client computer group level are ignored if one of the clients in the group belong to more than one group that have credentials specified. In such a case, provide user credentials at the instance level of that client.

Configure the user account only if one person performs all backup and restore operations on the SQL Server client in your organization.

Overrides the user account configured at the CommCell level and at the client computer group level.

Instance

Use for all subclients in an instance in the CommCell Console.

Configure the user account only if one person performs backup and restore operations in your organization.

Overrides the user account configured at the CommCell level, the client computer group level, and the agent level.
