If you plan to install the Workflow engine on a separate computer, verify that your environment meets the system requirements for the Workflow engine. By default, the Workflow engine is installed as part of the CommServe installation.
Operating System
Important
Use the most recent version of the operating system that is listed. The Commvault software fully supports the most recent version of an operating system, until the vendor ends support. More recent versions of the Commvault software might not install on operating systems that are not supported by the vendor anymore. For information about the support lifecycle of an operating system, contact the vendor.
For new installations of Commvault version 11.24 and later versions, Microsoft Windows Server 2012 is not supported. New installations of Commvault version 11.24 and later versions use MS SQL Server 2019, which requires a minimum of MS Windows Server 2016. Commvault upgrades are still supported.
Beginning with Commvault version 11.34 (Commvault Platform Release 2024), Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 will not be supported for Commvault upgrades because Microsoft has ended mainstream support for these Windows versions.
Windows 2012 and 2012 R2 clients will continue to be supported.

Note
The memory requirement might be larger, depending on the type of workflows that you deploy and run. For example, if your workflows have a high number of tasks and a high level of complexity, you might need to increase the memory to optimize the Workflow engine performance.
The Workflow engine includes the SQL Server software. The software installation requires 30 GB of disk space for the Microsoft SQL Server application and database and 20 GB of temp space.
In the future, you might need to provide additional space (several GB) to allow for database growth.
Software That Is Automatically Installed
Database Engine
Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Standard Edition is automatically installed during the installation of the Workflow software. If you have Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition already installed in your environment, the Workflow Engine uses the existing SQL Server.

.NET Framework
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2 is required and is automatically installed.
