Add an Instance for Informix

To back up an Informix database, add an instance for the database.

When you add an instance, a default subclient is created for the instance. The default subclient contains all the data, and cannot be deleted. You can create more subclients for data that has different backup requirements.


  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Databases.

    The Instances page appears.

  2. Click Add instance > Informix.

    The Add Informix instance dialog box appears.

  3. From the Server name list, select the server that contains the Informix instance.

  4. In the Instance name box, type a name for the instance.

  5. From the Plan list, select the server plan to use for the instance.

  6. In the User name and Password box, enter the credentials for a user account that can perform the On-Bar backups and restores.

    Note: For Windows, the user name must be in the domain_name\user_name format.

  7. In the Informix home box, enter the path to the Informix home directory.

  8. In the Onconfig file box, enter the path to the ONCONFIG file.

    The software uses this file to administer the number of streams and other capabilities for Informix.

  9. In the SQLHOSTS file box, enter the path to the SQLHOSTS file.

    For example, enter the following:

    • Windows: C:\Program Files\IBM\Informix\12.10\etc\sqlhosts.demo_on

    • UNIX: /opt/IBM/informix/11.50/etc/sqlhosts.demo_on

  10. Click Add.
