Getting Started with Azure Files SMB File Shares

Step 1: Before You Begin

• Open the Azure portal and create SMB volume for Azure Files. For more information, see Create an SMB File Share.

• This page assumes you have already installed CommServe software. If not, refer to the CommCell Quick Start Guide.

• Refer to the System Requirements page for Windows File System Agent.

Step 2: Install the Windows File System Agent

Install the Windows File System Agent on the client computer from where you can access the SMB shares.

Select the installation method that is most appropriate for your environment. For instructions, see Installation Methods.

Step 3: Prepare for Your First Backup and Restore

1. Open the CommCell Console.

2. Configure a Storage Device.

   You must install the MediaAgent to configure a storage device.

   • To configure a disk library, see Disk Libraries - Getting Started.

   • To configure a tape library, see Tape Libraries - Getting Started.

3. Add an Azure File Share instance.

4. Decide whether you want the following additional functionality:

   • You want to be notified of events that require attention.

     For more information, see Alerts and Notifications - Overview.

   • You want to report and analyze critical data about your CommCell operations.

     For more information about reports, see Reports Overview.

   • You want to manage security.

     For more information, see User Account and Password Management - Getting Started.

Step 4: Run Your First Backup and Restore
