After you configure data protection using the Exchange Database Agent, you might encounter errors. This topic lists resources for determining what the error is so that you can correct it.
Log Files
Discovery failures
Look for the error in the extidbdiscover.log file that is located in the software_installation/Log Files folder on any member server.
Backup failures
Look for the error in either of the following resource:

The extidbbackup.log file that is located in the software_installation/Log Files folder on any member server.

The Windows Event Viewer on any member server. This resource is useful for determining VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Service) errors.
Access Exchange PowerShell Through the CommCell Console
You can access Exchange servers using Exchange PowerShell through the CommCell Console using the Customize Tools feature. This allows you to run diagnostics on an particular Exchange server directly.
Recommendation: Make sure that you have a thorough understanding of the Exchange PowerShell and make sure you have the proper tools on your system before you attempt to run diagnostics using this method. Example: Checking the Status of the Exchange Servers on a Client
This procedure briefly describes how to check the status of an Exchange 2010 server.

Procedure

From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers.

Right-click the client, and then click Tools > Customize tools.
The Quick Access Tools dialog box appears.

Click Add.
The Create Tool dialog box appears.

From the Tool Type list, select Executable.

In the Executable Name box, browse to the powershell.exe file.

In the Parameters box, type the following command:
add-pssnapin Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.E2010

From the OS Type list, select WINDOWS.

From the Associate tool to list, select All.

From the Run tool on list, select Client Machine.

Fill in any of the other required data.

Click OK.

To run the command, right-click the client, and then click Tools > Customized Tool name.
A report appears that displays the status of the corresponding Exchange servers.
