You can perform a planned failover operation for an entire recovery group during maintenance on the source sites. Only VMs that are eligible fail over. After a recovery group failover, replication operations are disabled for the VMs that failed over. You can perform a recovery group failback operation to return replication operations to all source sites in the recovery group.
Before You Begin
Create a continuous recovery group.
Note: You cannot customize IP address settings for VMs with encrypted disks. If you configure custom IP address settings for a recovery group that includes VMs with encrypted disks, failover operations fail for those VMs.
Procedure
From the navigation pane, go to Auto Recovery.
The Recovery groups tab appears.
Under Group name, click a recovery group.
The recovery group details page appears.
On the Overview tab, in the upper-right area of the page, click Planned failover.
The Planned failover dialog box appears.
Click Submit.
The failover occurs to the most recent recovery point.
Result
The source VMs are turned off.
Operations move to the destination VMs.
If errors occur during a planned failover, the job fails and the source VMs are powered off. You must power on the source VMs manually, and then perform a resume operation.
