Applying a License from the License Page in the Command Center

After you purchase a license, you must apply the license to the CommServe server. Licenses validate the products and features that you use in the Commvault environment.

For new installations of the CommServe server, the first license you purchase is not automatically uploaded to the CommServe server. For new installations, a license is sent to you in an email, and you must save the license file to the CommServe server. You can then apply the license to the CommServe server.

For existing instances of the CommServe server that have automatic uploads turned on, new licenses are automatically uploaded to the CommServe server. After a new license is uploaded, you can apply the license in the Commvault software. Any new license that you purchase is sent to you in an email, whether automatic upload of licenses is turned on or not.

Before You Begin

  • Obtain a new license from your software provider. To request a new license, on the Commvault Maintenance Advantage Customer Support portal, go to Product Registration & License Management. In this form, you must include your CommCell ID, Serial Number, and Registration Code. You can copy this information from the License page. For instructions, see Viewing and Copying CommCell Product Information.

  • Either a license is uploaded to the CommServe server automatically, or you save a license to the CommServe server.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Manage > License.

    The License page appears

  2. Apply the license that was uploaded to your CommServe computer, or specify the location where you saved a license file:

    • To apply a license that was automatically uploaded to the CommServe server, in the New license is available section, click Apply.

    • To apply a license that you saved to the CommServe server, in the License details section, click Update license, select the location of the license file, and then click Apply.

  3. If Metallic Recovery Reserve is included in the license file and the Metallic Recovery Reserve user agreement dialog box appears, perform the following steps:

    1. Click the Metallic Terms and Conditions link to read the terms and condition.

A new page opens in a web browser and displays the information.

    2. In the Metallic Recovery Reserve user agreement dialog box, select the check box.

The check box is unavailable until you click the Metallic Terms and Conditions link and read the agreement.

    3. Click Agree.

If you click Cancel, all other product and feature licenses will be available. Only Metallic Recovery Reserve cannot be configured.

Note

License usage is calculated once every 24 hours. To recompute it immediately after applying a license, go to License Summary and click Recalculate.
