Creating a Plan Rule

To ensure the protection of all content, such as servers, database groups, and hypervisors, create a plan rule.

The administrative management permissions is required at the CommCell or Company level to manage the plan rules. To access a plan, you must have the plan subscription role on the plan.

Before You Begin

Verify that no default server plan is selected at the CommCell level or the company level. To remove a default server plan, see setting a default plan.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Manage > Plans.

    The Plans page appears.

  2. Click Plan rules.

    The Rules page appears.

  3. Click Add.

The Add assignment rule page appears.

  4. Specify how to associate server plans with subclient:

    • By server group: From the Servers belonging to list.

    • By region: From the In regions list.

    • By Commvault solutions, such as Databases or Virtualization: From the Having solutions list.

    • By tag: From the Tag name box, select the tag, and then in the Tag value box, enter the value.

  5. From the Assign to plan list, select the server plan.

  6. Click Add.

  7. On the Waiting Room tab, a list of subclients that match the plan rules appears. Click the checkbox for each subclient you want to apply the plan to, and then click Assign.

    A Confirm dialog box appears.

  8. Click Yes.

Results

By default, the Commvault software finds the subclient that matches the plan rules, and then queues the subclient on the Waiting room page, where the assignment of the server plan to the subclient occurs.

If more than one plan rule applies to subclient, the rule that appears first in order on the Rules page is used to assign a server plan to the subclient. So, if you have multiple plan rules, you can reorder them to ensure that the Commvault software evaluates plan rules in your preferred order.
