Getting Started with Backup and Restore Operations for Azure NetApp File Services SMB Shares and NFS Shares

Open the Azure portal and create SMB volume for Azure NetApp Files. For more information, see Create an SMB volume for Azure NetApp Files.

Step 1: Install the Commvault Package

If your backup administrator has not already installed the Commvault package, then you must install it.

For more information, see Installing the Commvault Package.

Step 2: Obtain Your User Credentials Information

Obtain the following information from your backup administrator:

  • The Command Center URL

  • Your Command Center user credentials

Step 3: Log on to the Command Center

Access the Command Center by using the URL that was displayed on the installation completion page, or that you received from your backup administrator.

From the navigation panel, click Protect > File Servers.

Step 4: Register the Command Center

If you have not done so, register your Command Center.

Step 5: Complete the Core Setup Wizard

Configure core information by completing the Core Setup Wizard.

Step 6: Complete the File Server Application Setup Wizard

Configure the File Server application by completing the Setup Wizard for the Servers Application.

Step 7: Add a NAS Client

Add the NAS client in the Command Center before you back up your CIFS and NFS data. For instructions, see Adding a NAS Client.

Step 8: Prepare for Your First Backup and Restore

A default backup set, which contains a default subclient, is automatically created when you set up the File Server application.The default backup set is designed to protect all of the data on the client computer.

Configure the subclient with SMB shares or NFS shares as subclient content. For more information, Configuring a Subclient for Azure NetApp Files On SMB Shares and Configuring a Subclient for Azure NetApp Files on NFS Shares.

Step 9: Perform Your First Backup and Restore

  1. Perform a backup.

  2. Perform a restore.


    To restore Azure NetApp Files sparse files for SMB shares, you must be a domain administrator to apply specific ACLs on the file system. Domain Admin must be mapped to have specific privileges with the underlying platform.
