Limiting User Logon Attempts

You can limit the number of times a user can attempt to log on. After the limit is reached, the user account is locked for the time period that you specify.

The limit applies to all Commvault Consoles, all mobile applications, and the command line interface.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Manage > CommCell.

    The CommCell properties page appears.

  2. In the General section, move the Limit user logon attempts toggle key to the right.

    The Limit user logon attempts dialog box appears.

  3. For Failed login attempt limit, enter the maximum number of times that users can attempt to log on.

  4. For Failed login attempts within, enter the number of hours that users can make the number of failed login attempts.

  5. For Account lock duration, enter the number of hours to lock the user's account.

  6. To lock users' accounts for a longer time period if their account is locked multiple times, do the following:

    1. Move the Enable duration increment on consecutive account lock toggle key to the right.

    2. In Lock duration increment by, enter the number of hours to increase the duration of the lock by.

  7. Click Save.

Example

If you enter the following, and the user enters the wrong password 5 times within 12 hours, the user's account is locked for 24 hours:

  • Failed login attempt limit: 5 Attempts

  • Failed login attempts within: 12 Hours

  • Account lock duration: 24 Hours
