OCI Object Storage

You can use the Commvault software to back up and restore data in OCI Object Storage.

Backups

Data You Can Back Up

  • Object storage repositories

  • Metadata of the object

  • Tags of the bucket

  • State (enabled or disabled) of certain bucket level property settings such as visibility, encryption key assigned, auto-tiering, emit object events, and object versioning.

Data You Cannot Back Up

  • Modified metadata of the object (in incremental backups)

  • Files and folders without a name.

  • Files and folders that contain a forward slash ("/") in their names.

Backups You Can Perform

  • Full backups

  • Incremental backups

  • Synthetic full backups

When You Can Perform Backups

  • On a schedule: The server plan that you assign manages scheduled backups

  • On demand: You can perform on-demand backups at any time

Restores

Data You Can Restore

  • Object storage repositories

  • Metadata of the object

  • Tags of the bucket

  • State (enabled or disabled) of certain bucket level property settings such as visibility, encryption key assigned, auto-tiering, emit object events, and object versioning.

Backups You Can Use for Restores

  • The most recent backup: For example, restore the most recent backup to its original location

  • A backup from a specific date: For example, restore data to a point in time before it became unusable

  • Backups from a date range: For example, restore data that was accidentally deleted

Destinations You Can Restore To

  • The original location (in place)

  • To a different bucket in the same OCI account, or to a different region in the OCI (out-of-place)

  • To a different cloud storage (out-of-place):

    • Amazon S3

    • Azure Blob

    • Azure Files

    • Google Cloud

    • Ali Cloud

    • IBM cloud

    • Azure Data Lake Gen2

  • Disk
