Setup Wizard for VMware Virtualization (Fully Managed Deployments)

When you log on to the Command Center for the first time, a setup wizard guides you through the core setup required by the applications available in the Command Center. After you complete the core setup, complete the setup wizard specific to the Virtualization application.

At any point during the setup wizard, click Finish setup later to leave the wizard. If you leave the setup wizard before it is complete, it appears the next time you log on.

Before You Begin

  • Complete the Core Setup Wizard.

  • You will need the following information to complete the setup wizard for the Virtualization application:

    • The hypervisor can be a vCenter or a standalone ESX server.

    • Identify a vCenter user account with permissions sufficient to access the vCenter, ESX servers, datastores, and virtual machines, as well as volumes, files, and folders within virtual machines, and obtain the account credentials or get access to saved credentials. The account must be able to perform discovery, backup, and restore operations.

  • At least one machine must have the VSA installed.

Procedure

  1. If the setup page is not displayed, from the navigation pane, click Guided setup.

  2. After you complete the core setup, on the Protect tab, click the Virtualization tile.

  3. On the Create server backup plan page, type a name for the plan, then provide information about storage, retention, and backup schedules.

    If you configured a server backup plan as part of the Core Setup, the wizard skips this page.

  4. Click Save.

    The Add hypervisor page appears. The options vary depending on the hypervisor type you select.

  5. Provide the following information:

    • Select vendor: Select VMware vCenter.

    • vCenter server name: Provide a fully qualified hostname or IP address for the hypervisor.

    • Hypervisor display name: Enter a descriptive name for the hypervisor.

    • User name and Password: Enter the user credentials to provide administrative access to the hypervisor.

    • Access nodes: Select a pre-installed proxy from the list.

      For VMware, the backup server is automatically selected as the default proxy.

  6. Click Save.

  7. On the Add VM group page, type a descriptive name to identify the VM group (for example, Essential VMs), and then select virtual machines to be protected.

  8. Click Save.

  9. To finish, choose one of the following options:

    • Click Back up Now to perform an immediate backup of the virtual machines in the VM group (without requiring confirmation).

      The Job details page appears and displays job status information.

    • Click Do it later to go to the hypervisor page without performing a backup.
