Configuring Client Owners for Windows File Servers

You can add user profiles as client owners for Windows file servers. You can do this using either of the following methods:

  • Set all user profiles as owner.

  • Set users from a local server user group as owner. This method will remove a user as owner who does not belong to the user group.

This functionality is supported wherever File System is installed.

Procedure

  1. To enable this feature for servers at the client group level, configure the nAllowSettingOwners additional setting and set the Value to 1. For information on how to add an additional setting from the CommCell Console, see Adding or Modifying an Additional Setting from the CommCell Console.

  2. Configure either of the following additional settings based on your requirements:

    • To set a global option for all laptops and servers in your CommCell environment, configure the ClientGroupForLaptop additional setting. This parameter can be set to one of the following values.

      • To discover all user profiles that have ever logged in, set the value EnumUserProfiles.

      • Specifying a local machine user group name as a value. For example, Backup Operators or Administrators,Power Users,Backup Operators (in case of multiple values).

        Note

By default, the local administrator group is set, even if the additional setting is not configured.

    • To set all user profiles as owner for a specific client group, configure the enumuserprofiles additional setting.

  3. Restart services on the client computer.
