Create the Virtual Tape Library

Create a virtual tape library (VTL).

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, click Virtual Libraries.

    The Configured VTLs page appears.

  2. Click Add VTL.

The Add VTL dialog box appears.

  3. In the VTL Name box, enter the name for the VTL.

  4. From the Library Vendor list, choose the name of the tape library vendor.

  5. From the Library Type list, choose the tape library type to emulate.

  6. From the VDrive Type list, choose the tape drive type to emulate.

A single tape drive type emulation is supported. (Mixed mode libraries are not supported)

    Note

Choosing the correct drive type is critical, as it determines the capacity of the cartridges.

  7. From the Number of VDrives list, specify the number of drives.

  8. In the Number of VSlots box, enter the number of storage slots to emulate.

The maximum number of storage slots is 60000 per VTL.

    Note

The number of slots determines the maximum number of cartridges that can be added to a VTL. Hence, it is recommended that you add more number of slots than the cartridges that you plan to add to the library.

If necessary, configure additional options as described in Add VTL.

  9. Click Submit.

    The VTL Information page appears.

A list of drives that were added is displayed under VDrive Information.

What to Do Next

If the VTL is associated with an IBM iSeries host, set the Dedup Block Size is set to 4 KB in the VTL library. For more information, see Modifying the Deduplication Settings for a VTL.
