Enabling or Disabling Data Pruning

Updated

Pruning is an I/O intensive activity which will impact the performance of the Deduplication Database (DDB) and the disk. Hence it is recommended to disable pruning on a MediaAgent to control physical pruning of data during peak back up hours. Alternatively a pruning window can be established to enable pruning during specific times of the day so that it does not interfere with the backup window.

When physical pruning is disabled, ongoing pruning and future pruning operations are prevented.

Note

You can disable ongoing pruning operations only on version 11 MediaAgents.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Storage Resources > MediaAgents.

  2. Right click the appropriate MediaAgent, and then click All Tasks > Blackout Window.

The Blackout Window dialog box appears.

  3. In the Blackout Window dialog box, click Add to create a new operation rule.

    1. In the Name box, type the name of the rule.

    2. Under Operations, select Data Pruning to disable pruning.

    3. Under Days of week, select the day(s) of the week when you do not want data pruning operations to be run.

    4. Under Do not run intervals, specify the duration when you do not want data pruning operations to be run.

      1. Select the Start Date and End Date.

      2. Click Add to specify the From Time and To Time.

        Note

The time zone of the MediaAgent is used to compute the blackout window time.

  4. Click OK.
