Oracle Archiving Restores

Updated

You can restore the archive to a database or to a disk.

Database Restores

You can use the archive or production database for the destination (staging database). You must configure the staging database in the CommCell Console.

Note: If the archive database already contains the selected data, the software imports the data directly from the archive database and does not involve the backup media.

When you restore archived data, you must provide the Connect details for the destination (staging) database. The destination (staging) database user has the same privileges as the archive database user. For information on the required privileges, see Required Privileges for the Production Database Connect User and Required Privileges for the Archive Database Archive User.

Backup Format and Restore Destinations

The backup format (native, XML, or Apache parquet) determines where you can restore the data.

Format

Destination

Native

A database and optionally a disk.

The restore is a 2 step process.

  1. The software restores the archived data is restored to the destination (staging) database from the backup media.

  2. The software restores all or a subset of the archived data is imported to the production (source) database from the destination (staging database).

XML

A disk that you specify (Restore Options dialog box, General tab, Redirect path for restored data files box), on the backup host, or to a new host.

Parquet

The archive or production database for the destination (staging database). You must configure the staging database in the CommCell Console.

The software restores the data to the disk that you specify (Restore Options dialog box, General tab, Redirect path for restored data files box) and then restores it to the database.
