Planning the Conversion of a Deduplication Database from Version 4 to Version 5

You can use the Convert DDB to V5 workflow to plan the conversion of a deduplication database from Version 4 to Version 5.

Before You Begin

Download and deploy the Convert DDB to V5 workflow. For instructions, see Downloading and Updating Workflows from the Commvault Store and Deploying a Workflow.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, go to Workflows.

  2. Right-click Convert DDB to V5, and then click All Tasks > Execute to run the workflow.

The Convert DDB to V5 Options dialog box appears.

  3. From the Run workflow on list, select the workflow engine to use to execute the workflow.

  4. For the Select an option, select the Planning option.

  5. For the Select location to store the output, select one of the following options:

    • Send over email: The workflow sends the output to the user who executes the workflow.

    • Save locally on the Workflow Engine computer: The workflow saves the output locally on the computer that hosts the Workflow Engine.

    • Both: The workflow performs both the above operations.

  6. Click OK.

If you selected Save locally on the Workflow Engine computer or both option for Select location to store the output, then Location to store the output dialog box appears.

  7. In the Specify location to store the output on Workflow Engine computer (example, D:\outputs) box, specify the location to store the output on the Workflow Engine computer.

  8. Click OK.

    The confirmation dialog box appears.

  9. Click OK.

Result

  • If you selected Send over email or both option for Select location to store the output, then the user who executes the workflow receives an email with the conversion information.

The DDB partitions that require compaction will be offline during conversion. The email sent contains details about these partitions.

  • You can monitor the progress of the planning job in the Job Controller window.

For more information, see Monitoring Backup, Restore, and Other Jobs.
