From Commvault 11.20, you can use the IntelliSnap Primary Remote Snapshot feature, which creates snapshots or clones on a remote site only, without creating any snapshot or clone on the primary site.
The difference between the IntelliSnap replication feature and the Primary Remote Snapshot feature is that replication creates snapshots or clones on both sites of the replication, the primary site, and the remote site, but with the Primary Remote Snapshot feature, there is no allocation of space for snapshots and clones on the primary site.
If the remote site cannot be found, then the snapshot backup operation creates the snapshot on the primary site, instead of creating the snapshot on the secondary site.
You can use the Primary Remote Snapshot feature with the following engines:
-
Hitachi Thin Image CCI
-
Hitachi Shadow Image CCI
Applicability and Support
Replication type |

Global-active Device (GAD) |
Not supported |
None |
The snapshot is created on the primary site from which the source devices were discovered. |
