Restoring Data from a Backup Copy

You can perform a restore from the backup copy by setting the appropriate copy precedence number.

Restore Data from a Backup Copy using File System

If the backup copy operation was performed using File System, then a restore from backup copy is performed using only the File System. Use the following steps to restore the data from a backup copy using the File System backup:

  2. Right-click the instance, then go to All Tasks > Browse and Restore.

The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

  4. Select the database, and then click the Recover All Selected button.

The Oracle Restore Options dialog box appears.

  5. Depending on the type of restore to be run, click Restore in place or Restore out of place, and then click Next.

The Oracle In Place Restore Options or Oracle Out of Place Restore Options dialog box appears.

  6. From the Restore Options window, click Advanced.

  7. On the Copy Precedence tab select the Restore from copy precedence checkbox.

  8. In the copy precedence box, type the copy precedence number for the backup copy.

  9. Select the General tab.

  10. Select the Use File System Restore checkbox.

Note: Use this option for restores from an Application Aware backup that was performed using the Virtual Server Agent.

  11. Click OK.

Restore Data from a Backup Copy Using RMAN for Disaster Recovery (DR)

You can restore data from an RMAN backup copy for DR. The RMAN catalog must be available during a restore operation. In a DR situation, use the following steps to restore a database from an RMAN backup copy when the catalog is not available:

  1. Restore the control file using the backup piece.

  2. Execute a cataloging script by logging in as the oracle user on the destination Oracle server. You can catalog one or more backup job IDs. For more information about cataloging RMAN backup pieces, see Cataloging RMAN Backup Pieces from a List of Backup Job IDs.

  3. Run the database restore job.
