Restoring Informix In Place

You can perform an in-place restore of Informix database.

Before You Begin

  • Full instance restore initiates salvage log backup that requires backup activity to be enabled at the destination instance level.

  • Enable backup activity control. To enable activity control, see Activity Control.

Procedure

Perform Entire Instance or Whole System Restore with Salvage Log Backup

  1. From the CommCell Browser, navigate to Client Computers | <Client> | Informix.

  2. Right-click the <Instance>, point to All Tasks and then click Browse and Restore.

  3. Select Latest Backup.

  4. Click View Content.

  5. From the Browse window, select all the dbspaces, and click Recover All selected.

  6. On the General tab of the Restore Options dialog box, perform the following:

    1. Perform an entire instance restore, in the Restore Mode section, select either the Entire Instance Restore option or the Whole Restore option.

    2. Select both the Physical and Logical check boxes.

    3. Restore the emergency boot file (ixbar), oncfg and ONCONFIG files, select the Restore Emergency Boot File (ixbar) and Restore ONCONFIG File checkboxes.

  7. Click OK.

Perform Entire Instance or Whole System Restore without Salvage Log Backup

Important

To avoid salvage log backup, perform logical restore followed by physical restore.

  1. From the CommCell Browser, navigate to Client Computers | <Client> | Informix.

  2. Right-click the <Instance>, point to All Tasks and then click Browse and Restore.

  3. Select Latest Backup.

  4. Click View Content.

  5. From the Browse window, select all the dbspaces, and click Recover All selected.

    The Informix restore option dialog box opens.

  6. On the General tab, perform the following actions:

    1. To perform an instance restore, in the Restore Mode section, select either the Entire Instance Restore option or the Whole Restore option.

    2. To perform physical restore, select the Physical check box.

      Note

      Select only Physical check box and deselect the Logical check box.

    3. Restore the emergency boot file (ixbar), oncfg and ONCONFIG files, select the Restore Emergency Boot File (ixbar) and Restore ONCONFIG File checkboxes.

  7. Click OK.

  8. After successful completion of the physical restore, select all the dbspaces from the Browse window, and click Recover All selected.

  9. From the Informix restore option dialog box, select the Logical checkbox.

    Note

    Select only Logical check box and deselect the Physical check box.

  10. Click OK.
