Add a VM group to identify a specific set of VMs to back up or restore.

Before You Begin

  • To select VMs based on views or automatic discovery rules, see "Views and Rule Options" (below).

Start the Configuration Wizard

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtualization.

    The Virtual machines page appears.

  2. Click Add VM group.

The Add VM group page of the configuration wizard appears.

Select Hypervisor

  1. Click Hypervisor to search for and select an existing hypervisor.

  2. Click Next.

The Create server backup plan dialog box appears.

      • In Plan name, enter a unique name for the plan.

      • In Storage, select a storage pool.

      • In Retention rules, select a retention plan.

      • Browse: Select specific VMs. (Selecting this option changes the Add rule dialog box to the Add content dialog box.)
      • Guest DNS hostname: Select VMs based on a hostname or a domain. For example, to select hosts on the "mycompany.com" domain, enter Guest DNS hostname | Ends with | mycompany.com.
      • Guest OS: Enter the exact name of the operating system or a pattern to identify an operating system group (for example, Microsoft to identify any VM that has a version of the Windows operating system).
      • Host: Enter the host name, the IP address of the host, or a host name pattern using wildcards. When you add a host, all VMs on the host are included in the backup.

      • Template: Enter True or False.
      • Virtual machine: Enter the display name of the VM.
