You can enable global file search for virtual machines at the plan level.
Index Server Hardware Requirements
When you enable global file search, the system pushes the following packages to the default path of the MediaAgent that is specified in the associated backup plan or storage policy in order to establish a single index server deployment.
You can change the index server if required. Once changed, all metadata from the next job forward will be pushed to new index server. For more information, see see Step 8 in Add a Resource Pool for Virtualization.
The index server must have the MediaAgent, Index Gateway, and Index Store packages installed. Note the following:

As part of a file search job, if the required Index Gateway package is not present on a VSA access node, the system will install the package on the client and then continue to process the job.
A file search job can be processed by multiple VSA access nodes.
From the navigation pane, go to Manage > Plans.
The Plans page appears.
Click a plan.
The Plan page appears.
In the Options area, move the File search toggle key to the right.
