Managing VM Group Content for Citrix Hypervisor (XenServer)

For an existing VM group, you can add VMs or modify the content selections.

Go to the VM Group

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtualization.

    The Virtual machines page appears.

  2. On the VM groups tab, click the VM group.

    The VM group page appears.

Edit Content

  1. Click the Content tab.

    The Content page of the VM group shows the currently selected content to be backed up (hosts, specific VMs, or source VM storage).

  2. To edit the content, click the Pencil icon.

    The Manage content page appears.

  3. To modify the content Type, click action_button in the Actions column of the row for the Name and then click Edit rule.

    The Add rule dialog box appears.

    1. To include VMs that match all rules, select all. To include VMs that match any of the rules, select any.
    2. In the criteria list, select a search criterion from the menu, such as Virtual machine or Host.
    3. In the operators list, define the rule by selecting an operator from the list, such as Equals or Starts with.
    4. To add a value, enter a text string or specify a text pattern using wildcards.
    5. To add more content for the rule, click the folder icon and select a value from the list.
    6. Click Save.
  4. To remove a VM, click action_button in the Actions column of the row for the VM and then click Delete.

  5. Click Preview to see a list of the VMs that will be backed up and the hosts for the VMs.

  6. Click Save to save the changes to VM group content.

    The Content page appears with the rule and VM name that you selected.

Define Filters

  1. Click the Content tab.

    The Content page of the VM group shows the currently selected content to be backed up (hosts, specific VMs, or source virtual machine storage).

  2. To edit the content, click the Pencil icon.

    The Manage content page appears.

  3. To filter VMs based on specific criteria, move the Define filters toggle key to the right.

  4. To discover VMs automatically, do the following:

    1. Click Add > Rule.

      The Add rule dialog box appears.

    2. To include VMs that match all rules, select all. To include VMs that match any of the rules, select any.

    3. In the criteria list select a search criterion from the menu, such as Virtual machine or Host.

    4. In the operators list, define the rule by selecting an operator from the list, such as Equals or Starts with.

    5. To add a value, enter a text string or specify a text pattern using wildcards.

    6. To add more content for the rule, click the folder icon and select a value from the list.

    7. Click Save.
  5. To add VMs manually, do the following:

    1. Click Add > Content.

      The Add content dialog box appears.

    2. Browse for and then select VMs.

    3. Click Save.

  6. To edit a rule, click action_button in the Actions column of the row for the VM and then select Edit rule.

Define Disk Filters

  1. To filter on disks attached to specific VMs, move the Define disk filters toggle key to the right.

  2. Click Add > Rule.

    The Add disk filter dialog box appears.

  3. From the Disk filter type list, select one of the following:

    • Device path
    • Disk name or pattern
    • Position
    • Storage repository
  4. Enter criteria applicable to the selected disk filter type, and then click OK.

  5. Click Save to save the changes to VM group content.
