Performing Restore Operations for NDMP

Restore your backed up data to the original location on the same computer, to a new location on the same computer, or to a different computer.

Files restored to a NetApp file server automatically use a synthetic restore if the backup contains a large number of files and does not contain alternate data streams (ADS). To create the synthetic restore, the software generates a backup image that only contains the data selected for the restore operation. Restoring from a synthetic restore improves performance when you restore a small number of files from a backup that contains a large number of files.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > File Servers.

    The file servers Overview page appears.

  2. On the File Servers tab, in the row for the NAS file server, click the action button action_button, and then click Restore.

    The Restore dialog box appears.

  3. Select the subclient, and then click Select content.

    The Backup content page appears.

  4. Choose the content that you want to restore:

    • To restore the contents of the entire subclient, next to Name, select the check box.

    • To restore specific folders and files, find the folders and files:

      1. In the left area of the page, expand the folders until the folders and files that you want to restore appear in the table.

      2. Next to the folders and files, select the check box.

        Tip

        To view content from a specific date or date range, in the upper-right corner of the page, click Showing latest backup.

  5. Click Restore.

    The Restore options dialog box appears.

  6. From the Destination list, choose the destination computer to restore the data to.

  7. Choose the restore location:

    • To restore to the original backup location, select the Restore to original folder check box.

    • To restore to a different location, clear the Restore to original folder check box, and then in the Destination path box, type the full path to the destination folder.

  8. Click Restore.
