Skipping Page Files or Swap Partitions During Backups

You can disable the skipping of Windows page files or the Linux swap partitions. By default, streaming backup operations and backup copy operations of virtual disks for an instance or a virtual machine skip the Windows page files or the Linux swap partitions. Skipping these files reduces the size of backups for the virtual disk on storage media.

Only streaming backup operations and backup copy operations can skip these files.

When you browse a backup that skipped the page file or the swap partition, you can still see these files because they are part of the file system metadata that is displayed. The restored page or swap file size from backups varies depending on the extents that are shared between the page or swap file and other files.

The following hypervisors support this feature:

  • Amazon Web Services

  • Google Cloud Platform

  • Hyper-V

  • VMware

You must enable or disable this feature in the CommCell Console. For more information, see Skipping Page Files or Swap Partitions During Backups.
