System Requirements for File Storage Optimization

Verify that your environment meets the system requirements for File Storage Optimization.

Commvault Packages

To use File Storage Optimization, install the following packages on a computer. You will use the computer with the packages to create an Index Server in the File Storage Optimization guided setup. For the best results, install the packages on a dedicated computer.

  • Index Store

  • Index Gateway

Operating System

The computer that you install the required packages on must use one of the following operating systems.

Windows

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2022 Editions

  • Windows Server 2019

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Editions

  • Windows Server 2016

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 x64 Editions

  • Windows Server 2012

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 x64 Editions

Access Nodes

In File Storage Optimization, the MediaAgent acts as the access node.

  • If you are analyzing data that is not backed up and the operating system of the data source differs from the operating system of the Index Server, then the operating system of the access node must match the operating system of the data source and must have a Commvault package installed. For example, if you want to analyze a UNC share, but the Index Server is on a Linux computer, you must use a Windows computer as the access node.
