Commvault uses asynchronous data pruning for Oracle backups. The software marks the data aging jobs as completed, and deletes the data (archive files from the Commvault catalog. The crosscheck script that marks backup pieces as unavailable is pushed to the client. The client runs the crosscheck script and the aged backup pieces are marked as unavailable.
If the script fails on the client, then the software retries the operation of marking the backup pieces and deleting them 5 times.
If the script (including the retries) fails, then the database administrator must manually delete the backup pieces from the recovery catalog/control file.
