Create a new Xen virtualization client to manage backup and restore operations for a Xen pool or a standalone XenServer. In deployments with multiple Xen pools, you must create a different virtualization client for each pool.
When you create a virtualization client, Commvault automatically creates a Xen instance, a default backup set, and a default subclient under the virtualization client.
The Xen instance identifies the VSA proxies that are added during client creation. VSA proxies perform backup and restore operations for the virtualization client.
The virtualization client also enables proxy teaming, enabling proxy failovers for fault tolerant backups. Using multiple proxies for each virtualization client makes it possible to perform backups for a large number of virtual machines in a limited backup window.
Before You Begin

Install the Virtual Server agent
Install the Virtual Server Agent (VSA) on a dedicated virtual machine (proxy). You can install the VSA on other virtual machines to create one or more additional proxies on any XenServer.

Obtain the following information from your Xen administrator:

Master XenServer name for a Xen pool.

User credentials to access a standalone XenServer or the master XenServer in the Xen pool.
To ensure that each proxy can query all XenServers for backups, you must provide credentials for the root user on the master XenServer or a user account having the Pool Administrator (Pool Admin) role.

Procedure

From the CommCell Browser, right-click Client Computers and select New Client > Virtualization > Citrix Xen.
The Create Citrix Xen Client dialog box is displayed.

In the XenPool Name box, enter a descriptive name for the Xen pool.

In the Master Xen Server box, enter a host name, fully qualified host name, or IP address for the standalone XenServer or the master XenServer in the Xen pool.

In the User Name, Password, and Confirm Password boxes, enter credentials for the root user or a user account having the Pool Administrator (Pool Admin) role.

From the Storage Policy list, select a storage policy to associate with the virtualization client.
The storage policy you select is also associated with the default subclient that is created automatically for the virtualization client.

To identify proxies that can perform backups for the client, click Add.

In the Select Clients / Client Groups dialog box, identify the VSA proxies that can perform backup and restore operations for the virtualization client.
After adding a virtualization client in V11, you can only specify VSA proxies that are also V11.
Only proxies that match the type of the virtualization client are displayed.
Note
When creating a Xen virtual machine to be used as a VSA proxy, ensure that the Copy host BIOS strings to VM option is not selected. If the Copy host BIOS strings to VM option was selected when a Xen virtual machine was created, the virtual machine will not be recognized as a Xen proxy.

From the Exclude list, select one or more proxies. Add all VSA proxies that are on VMs in the same Xen pool.
You must identify at least one VSA proxy for each XenServer in the pool. Add VSA proxies for all XenServers, not just the master.
The list displays all the clients that have the Virtual Server Agent installed and all the client groups. You can select one or more clients or client groups. When you select a client group, ensure that at least one client in the group has the Virtual Server Agent installed.
The first proxy for a client (the coordinator) allocates jobs to other proxies.

Click Include or Include All and then click OK.

To include other XenServers for the client, click Configure Xen Servers.

In the Configure Xen Servers dialog box, click Scan.

Click Yes in the confirmation dialog box.

Click OK.
