Multisite IntelliSnap for NetApp Arrays

You can perform IntelliSnap operations on multisite NetApp C-Mode storage arrays that have duplicate IP addresses. This capability is useful for environments that have multiple NetApp storage arrays that have the same IP addresses across multiple isolated networks.

Terminology

This documentation uses the following terminology.

Term

Description

site

A network with one or more NetApp arrays. Within a site, IP addresses cannot be duplicated.

multisite

Multiple sites in isolated networks within an organization.

Considerations

  • You cannot use the multisite feature with the following configurations:

    • NetApp 7-Mode file server

    • NetApp OnCommand Unified Manager (OCUM) based replication

    • NetApp Open Replication, when the destination or target array is part of a multisite configuration

    • Snap Management Tool (except the setArrayUUId and setVserverConfig options)

  • You can use the multisite feature with some restrictions on the following situations:

    • If a NetApp cluster has storage virtual machines (SVMs) that belong to multiple IPspaces, then you cannot back up the default subclient of network shares at cluster client level.

    • You cannot use auto update of aliases because of the risk of creating conflicting IP addresses. If you want to add a new IP on an SVM that is part of a multisite configuration, then you need to manually add it.

For more information about IPspaces, go to the NetApp documentation site and search for "IPspaces".
