Creating a Pseudoclient for an Amazon RDS Account

Create a pseudoclient with the Amazon RDS account information so that you can back up to and restore from an Amazon RDS SQL instance.

The pseudoclient provides an easy way for you to manage all the Amazon RDS instances that belong to the same account.

You can add multiple access nodes to the pseudoclient. The Commvault software uses the first access node in the list for instance and database discovery.

Before You Begin

  1. Obtain an Amazon RDS account.

  2. Obtain a root user access key by using AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), as described in Managing Access Keys for Users.

  3. On Amazon, create an Amazon RDS instance.

Procedure

  1. In the CommCell Browser, right click Client Computers, and then click New Client > Cloud Apps > Amazon SQL.

The Create Amazon Client dialog box appears.

  2. In the Regions box, enter the regions.

  3. To connect to the client, under Authentication, select an authentication method:

    • To use an IAM role, select IAM Role.

    • To use an access key and a secret access key, select Access and secret keys, and then from the Credential list select the credential entity.

    • To use an STS assume role with IAM policy, select AWS STS assume role with IAM role policy, and then from the Credential list select the credential entity.

  4. Next to Access Nodes, click Add.

The Select Clients/Client Groups dialog box appears.

  5. From the Exclude list, select the client computer that has the Virtual Server package installed, and then click Include.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Click OK.

What to Do Next

Configure SQL servers for the pseudoclient. The SQL servers represent the Amazon RDS instance that belongs to the account. For more information, see Adding Amazon RDS SQL instances to the Pseudoclient.

For more information about creating a new credential entity, see Adding a Credential to Credential Manager.
