Add the NAS file server that you want to back up.
You can back up both Common Internet File System (CIFS) shares and Network File System (NFS) exports. If you want to use IntelliSnap to back up the file server or use SnapDiff / Changelist for streaming backups, add a storage array when you add the file server.
Before You Begin
-
Ensure that your access node meets hardware specifications to back up the CIFS shares and NFS exports. For more information, see Hardware Specifications for Access Nodes.
-
To backup CIFS shares using Linux access nodes, ensure that cifs-utils and smb_client are installed on the access node.
Start the Configuration Wizard
-
From the navigation pane, go to Protect > File Servers.
The file servers Overview page appears.
-
On the File Servers tab, in the upper-right area of the page, click Add server.
The Configure File Server page appears.
-
Click NAS.
-
Click Next.
The General page of the Add NAS Server configuration wizard appears.
General
-
In the Name box, enter a name for the file server.
-
In the Host name box, enter the fully qualified host name of the file server.
-
Click Next.
The Plan page of the configuration wizard appears.
Plan
-
From the Plan list, select the server plan to use for the file server.

Array
If you want to use IntelliSnap to back up the file server or use SnapDiff / Changelist for streaming backups, add a storage array.
Note
-
For NetApp/Dell EMC Isilon arrays, ensure to add the array information while creating NAS client to use the Changelist scan/Snapdiff scan features.
-
For NetApp C-mode, if you want to add the CIFS/NFS protocol for an existing de-configured NAS client that is created when C-mode array is added using array management, ensure that the default subclient content is updated with appropriate CIFS/NFS interface if management IP and CIFS/NFS interface IPs are different.
Steps to add an Array
-
Next to Array, click Add.
The Add array dialog box appears.
-
From the Select vendor list, select the array vendor.
-
In the Array name box, enter the storage array name.
-
In the Control host box, type the control host IP.
-
In the User name and Password boxes, type the credentials for the array.
-
(Optional) From the Access nodes list, select an access node.
-
To confirm that the system can connect to the array, click Preview.
-
Click Save.
CIFS
-
You can backup CIFS exports of the NAS file server using Windows as well as Linux access nodes. Select Windows or Linux as the Access node type.
-
To specify the access nodes to use for the file server, from the Access Nodes list, select the access nodes.
By default, the MediaAgents that are associated with the storage that is specified in the server plan are used as the access nodes.
Note
-
The Linux access nodes that are chosen to backup CIFS exports must be on Service Pack 36. This feature is not supported on lower versions of the Commvault software.
-
CIFS backup using Linux access nodes is not supported with IntelliSnap. Ensure that a Windows access node is selected if IntelliSnap is enabled.
-
-
Next to CIFS credentials, click Edit, and then specify the credentials to use.
-
To back up only some content, in Backup content, move the All CIFS shares toggle to the left, and then specify the content to back up.
By default, all content is backed up.
Note
The CIFS credentials must be added to change the backup content.
NFS
-
To specify the access nodes to use for the file server, from the Access Nodes list, select the access nodes.
By default, the MediaAgents that are associated with the storage that is specified in the server plan are used as the access nodes.
-
To back up only some content, in Backup content, move the All NFS exports toggle to the left, and then specify the content to back up.
By default, all content is backed up.
-
Click Next.
The Migrate To This Server page of the configuration wizard appears.
Migrate To This Server
-
Optional: To migrate data from the old server, move the Migrate data from old server toggle key to the right.
For more information, see Migration of Backup Data to a Different NAS File Server.
-
Click Add.
