You can add all public folders to Exchange Online backup content so that public folders are automatically discovered and backed up when new public folders are added.
All public folders appear as a separate entity on the Mailboxes and Content tabs. After you add all public folders as content, you can back up and restore all public folders like an entire mailbox or back up and restore individual items within the public folders.
Before You Begin
To back up and restore public folders, you must configure a service account that meets the following requirements:

The service account must be an online user mailbox or a shared mailbox.

The service account must have owner permissions at the root level.

Run the following Exchange Online Powershell command to assign owner permission to service account for root and sub-folders
You must run this command each time new public folders are added to the Exchange Online app.

Adding a Service Account

From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Office 365.
The Office 365 Overview page appears.

On the Apps tab, click the app.
The Overview page of the app appears.

On the Configuration tab, select Service accounts in the Exchange connection settings section, and then click Add service account.
The Add service account tool appears.

On the Configuration Type tab and on the Connection Details tab, select one of the following as required:
Options
Express configuration
Custom configuration
Configuration Type
With this option, the Metallic backup app for Exchange Online is used to create and configure the service account which will be used to perform backup and restore operations.
Click Next.
Wih this option, the service account for Exchange Online will need to be created and configured manually.
Click Next.
Connection Details
The connection details will be taken from the Metallic backup app for Exchange Online.

Click Sign in with Microsoft.
A Microsoft window displays all the permissions that are required to access the Azure app.
If the browser pop-up blocker blocks the Microsoft window, allow access to the Microsoft window.

At the bottom of the Microsoft window, click Accept.
Click Next.

Email address
Enter the email address of the Exchange Online mailbox.

Password and Confirm password
Enter the password for the Exchange Online mailbox.

Review and confirm the following requirements

Select Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is turned off on the service account. to turn off MFA for the service account.

Select The service account has all the required roles and permissions assigned. once the Exchange Online service account meets the View-Only Recipients requirement.

Click Next.

On the Summary tab, a confirmation screen appears after the service account is created.

Click Close.
Adding All Public Folders

From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Office 365.
The Office 365 Overview page appears.

On the Apps tab, click the app.
The Overview page of the app appears.

On the Content tab, in the upper-right area of the page click Add.
The Configure Content page appears.

Select Add content to backup, and then click Next.
The Add Content tool appears.

Select Mailboxes.
-
Under Advanced, select All public folders, and then click Next.
The Content tab appears.

Click Next.
The Office 365 Plan tab appears.
-
From the Office 365 plan list, select the plan to use for the public folders, and then click Next.
The Summary tab appears.

Click Submit.
