Adding Monitoring Nodes for Automatic Failover

Monitoring nodes are used to monitor the active CommServe host in real-time, and obtain the information necessary to detect failures, and successfully perform an automatic failover to a standby CommServe host.

By default, 3 MediaAgents will be automatically selected as monitoring nodes, when you enable the automatic failover feature. A minimum of 3 monitoring nodes must be maintained. Additional monitoring nodes can be added using the available clients and/or MediaAgents in the CommCell. Commvault supports clients and/or MediaAgents that are in a Windows or a Linux environment as monitoring nodes.

Note

Recommended: When you have multiple networks within your CommCell, pick one (or more) clients / MediaAgents from each network as a monitoring node.

Before You Begin

Enable Automatic Failover as described in Enabling Automatic Failovers.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Manage > System.

    The System page appears.

  2. Click the CommServe LiveSync tile.

    The CommServe LiveSync page appears.

  3. Under Monitoring Nodes, click Add.

The Add Monitoring nodes page appears.

  4. Select the checkbox associated with clients / MediaAgents that must be used as monitoring nodes.

  5. Click Save.

Result

  • The High Availability Computing (HAC) package will be automatically installed in the selected clients / MediaAgents.

  • The selected clients / MediaAgents will be listed under the Monitoring Nodes section of the CommServe LiveSync page.

Note

To add a Web Server / Web Console client in the Monitoring nodes list, manually install the HAC package on these clients. (The HAC package will not be automatically installed on these clients when you add these clients.)
