To send email messages from the Command Center, you must set up an email server. For example, when you send log files, you can send email notifications to users.
You can use classic authentication via username and password for most email servers. However for the Office 365 email server, you must configure modern authentication.
For Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption, versions 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 are supported.
Before You Begin
- Ensure that the firewall is disabled from your web server to the mail server.
- To configure the Microsoft Office 365 email server, create an Azure app in the Azure portal with the required permissions, and note the following details:
- Azure application ID
- Azure application secret
- Azure directory ID
Procedure
- From the navigation pane, go to Manage > CommCell.
The CommCell properties page appears. - Under Email settings, click Edit.
The Configure email page appears. -
Enter the details for the email server:

If you change the default mail server port number or disable or enable SSL, on the CommServe computer, restart the Server Event Manager (EvMgrS) service. For instructions about restarting services, see Using Process Manager to View and Manage Commvault Services.
- In the SMTP server box, enter the name of the mail server.
For example, enter smtp.office365.com for the Microsoft Office 365 email server. -
In the SMTP port box, enter the mail server port.
Note
- The default port is 25.
- For the Microsoft Office 365 email server, enter port 587.

In the Sender email box, enter an email address.
- In the Sender name box, enter the sender name.
- If the mail server uses encryption, select the encryption algorithm:
- TLS: Select if the mail server uses Transport Layer Security (TLS).
- SSL: Select if the mail server uses Secure Socket Layers (SSL).
- To specify authentication options for the mail server, move the Use authentication toggle key to the right.
- To use a user name and password recognized by the mail server, select Classic authentication.
- Enter the user name and password recognized by the mail server.
- To configure the Microsoft Office 365 email server, you must select Modern authentication.
- Enter the Azure application ID, secret, and directory ID and then review and confirm that the app has the required permissions.
- Copy and paste the redirect URI in the Microsoft Azure app portal.
- Click Acquire token.
The Token status changes to Token acquired and the Azure account email is authorized for sending emails. Additionally, the Sender email box is automatically populated with the authorized Azure account email.
- To use a user name and password recognized by the mail server, select Classic authentication.
- In the SMTP server box, enter the name of the mail server.

To send a test email, click Test email.
- Click Save.
