On the Settings tab, you can configure the ContentStore Mail Server (SMTP).

Basic Settings

Setting

Description

Host name

The server name of the ContentStore Mail Server (SMTP). This value is read-only.

Upload the certificate

Browse to the SSL certificate and upload it to the ContentStore Mail Server (SMTP).

  • The certificate must include the fully qualified domain names of the endpoints to which the SMTP clients connect. Usually, this is the SMTP host name.

  • The supported format is PKCS#12 (.p12 or .pfx) and it must contain both public key certificates and private keys.

Important

If you use Office 365 with Exchange (Exchange Online), after you upload the SSL certificate and enable TLS for SMTP, you must enable TLS on the Send connector. For more information, see the Microsoft TechNet article: "Set up connectors for secure mail flow with a partner organization": https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn751021(v=exchg.150).aspx.

Certificate password

The SSL certificate password.

Use TLS for SMTP

When this check box is selected, communications are encrypted using Transport Layer Security (TLS). This is the recommended setting.

When the check box is cleared, communications are not encrypted.

SMTP Port

The SMTP communication port. By default, it is 25. This port must be open.

ContentStore Mailbox cache location

Messages received by the ContentStore Mail Server (SMTP) are stored in this folder before they are processed by the ContentStore Mailbox archiving job. If the Delete archived messages after successful archive operations option in the Exchange journal plan is enabled, messages are deleted from this folder after the archive job completes.

By default, this location is in the software installation path. You can change the path to another location, which can be a local path or a shared network location. If you use a shared network location, you configure it first.

For best performance, follow these guidelines:

  • Locate this folder on a storage device that has a fast access speed.

  • Do not locate the folder on a system drive.

  • The location should have enough space to hold two-week's worth of messages. Calculate this space based on the amount of email that you expect to be received on the Exchange server.

  • Exclude the folder path from antivirus scanning.

If you use a shared network location, you must configure it first.

Important

  • Make sure that the shared network location is always available.

  • Do not use the same share across multiple SMTP access nodes.

  • Grant the service account full access to the shared folder.

Each server must have its own shared network location. For example:

SMTP server 1: \\SMTP\share1

SMTP server 2: \\SMTP\share2

Accept a connection from

The SMTP server accepts only the messages from the Exchange servers that are configured in this list. If messages come from Exchange servers that are not on the list, the messages are rejected.

If you change an Exchange server IP address, or if you add Exchange servers to the Send connector, make sure that you add the IP addresses to this list.

For information about Office 365 with Exchange, see the Microsoft TechNet article, "Office 365 URLs and IP address ranges":
