Getting Started with IBM Cloud Object Storage

Getting started with object storage for IBM Cloud Object Storage (COS) includes verifying requirements, installing the software for your environment, and configuring the IBM COS in the Command Center. Then, you can test the backup and the restore operations and configure data retention.

Step 1: Verify License Requirements, System Requirements, and Supported Features

Step 2: Install the File System Core, File System, and Cloud Apps Packages

Windows Systems

  1. Prepare the Installation on Windows computers. See Planning a Client Installation on Windows Computers.

  2. Review the preinstallation checklist for the Windows File System Agent. See Preinstallation Checklist for the Windows File System Agent.

  3. Review the preinstallation checklist for the Cloud Apps on Windows computers. See Cloud Apps On Windows.

  4. Choose the installation method that best suits your environment. See Installation Methods.

Linux Systems

  1. Prepare the Installation on Linux computers. See Planning a Client Installation on UNIX, Linux, and Macintosh Computers.

  2. Review the preinstallation checklist for the Linux File System Agent. See Preinstallation Checklist for the UNIX, Linux, and Macintosh File System Agent.

  3. Review the preinstallation checklist for the Cloud Apps on Linux computers. See Preinstallation Checklist for Cloud Apps on Linux.

  4. Choose the installation method that best suits your environment. See Installation Methods.

Step 3: Install the Commvault Package

If your backup administrator has not already installed the Commvault package, then you must install it.

Step 4: Log On to the Command Center

Access the Command Center by using the URL that was displayed on the installation completion page, or that you received from your backup administrator.

Step 5: Configure IBM Cloud Object Storage in the Command Center

  1. Create a server plan. See Creating a Server Plan.

  2. Add an IBM COS repository. See Adding an Object Storage Repository.

  3. Add a content group to the object storage repository. See Adding a Content Group to a Repository.
